Why is it so hard for asian americans to become famous actors?
I just graduated high school and am off to college next year. I honestly have no idea where I want to go with my life, and I just thought of considering going into acting. But I’m debating whether I should, because there are hardly any asian americans these days that are "A list" actors. Should I even consider trying to fulfill a new goal of becoming a famous asian american actor or is it just a waste of time?

Those racist Hollywood movie directors will never give Asian guys any chance to play main acting role in positive light.
Considering only 1% of actors are employed at any given time, I think it would be unwise to pursue that route. Even though there are not that many Asian Actors that are A-list celebrities, trying to become a famous actor is way difficult on its own. I would suggest trying to go to college for something that you know will pay off.
Totally college. Most Actors like famous carpenter, Harrison Ford, had real jobs first or after their acting careers. I think most colleges have theater clubs.
If you can write, you could start with a podcast or vidcast.
If whites are about 60% of the population and I think Asians are under 10% so part is numbers
Some of your questions may have been answered in Margaret Cho’s book I Have Chosen to Stay and Fight when she talks about making American Girl
Go for it, but please don’t sell out by making stereotypical films in Hollywood.
To answer your question, Google "I am ex"… and see what your suggested searches are.
Follow your dream. If you have a passion for something, you should stick to it. We need more Asian actors.
* pokes you*
Listen kiddo. If you want something..you gotta fight for it. Sure you may get some crap at first…but persevere! fight! and whatever else words some random coach would tell you!
Even if you start out with bit parts where no one knows who you are it will be a start. The start of your dream. You may get parts that are stereotypical for asian male actors because thats how hollywood will see you at first…but eventually you will have to fight back. You’ll have to tell them " Hey! im not this so and so type of asian! I wanna do this! Dont make me a damn statistic!"
Eventually someone will listen to you and be like.." ok..lets give this kid a chance//lets see if he can make his words true"
But…Go to college first. take some acting classes. Most directors and all that most likely wont just hire some newb from off the street.
You got to go where there is a demand for you. Go to Asian and become a Bollywood actor over there.
If your goal is just be an actor, I say go for it. If your goal is to be a famous actor, forget it. Go into acting because you love acting and you’ll be happy busting your ass to do it for the rest of your life, not because you want to get noticed on the street.
Go to college first. Get something that can be used almost anywhere, like a degree in business and management. Then, while in college, give acting a shot. Attend some casting calls, see where it takes you. But keep small parts if you get them until you have finished your degree. Too many celebs think their fame will last forever, spend all of their money and when they are passe, they don’t know how to support themselves. I say college first, acting second.
